No two Totem Diva pieces begin in quite the same way.

Some first take shape in fire. Some are shaped by the sea. Others emerge slowly around a stone that draws me in with its colour, form or unusual flash of light.

Under the flame, silver moves and changes, leaving marks that cannot be fully controlled. The sea cools it into a shape that could never have been imagined in advance. My hands continue where fire and sea leave off – shaping, joining and finishing each piece without erasing what happened along the way.

This is where the freedom of creating lies. Not in forcing the material to become exactly what I imagined, but in recognising what has begun to emerge and allowing it to find its own form.

Meaning works in the same way. I may see a wave, a spiral, a trace of fire or a return to myself. You may recognise something entirely different. Something of your own. Totem Diva does not tell you what a piece is supposed to mean. It waits for someone to recognise something of their own within it.

Perhaps that is why it can be difficult to explain why a certain piece of jewellery makes us pause. Among all the shapes, one draws us in for no obvious reason. As if we are not seeing it for the first time, but remembering it.
